Maxine McKew, Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Development, Jay Weatherill, Acting South Australian Minister for Regional Development, and Felicity-ann Lewis, President of the Local Government Association of SA today congratulated the new Regional Development Australia (RDA) South Australia boards on their commitment to the future of SA's regions. Ms McKew and Mr Weatherill joined RDA Committee Chairs and Deputy Chairs at an official briefing in Adelaide today. "Foremost I want to thank these community champions for stepping up to fly the flag for sustainable regional development in South Australia," said Ms McKew. "I urge the Boards to work hard, work together, work with all levels of government and business and communities; and to think innovatively and proactively for regional communities." "Since their appointment last year RDA boards around the country have been kicking goals for their regions. I'm really looking forward to working with SA boards to achieve the best we can for their regional communities." Mr Weatherill said "South Australia's regions make an important contribution to the state economy." "The new Regional Development Australia Boards will play a vital role in ensuring our regions can capitalise on their strengths and continue to develop," Mr Weatherill said. Mayor Lewis says RDA Boards are "an interface between local communities, businesses, interest groups and all spheres of government. Doing this will give them an even stronger voice on local issues." Ms McKew, Mr Weatherill and Mayor Lewis again congratulated the Board members on their appointments and called on them to get working on engaging with and supporting government and regional communities, and responding to local needs.
