Regional Development Australia NT Gets Down To Business
|
|
Maxine McKew, Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Development, and Damian Hale, Member for Solomon, today urged the new Regional Development Australia (RDA) Northern Territory committee to make their mark on the Territory's regions. Mr Hale, representing Ms McKew at the RDA NT official induction meeting in Darwin today, impressed upon the committee members the importance of the role they will play in strengthening the regions they now represent. Ms McKew set the committee a clear challenge - to work hard, work together, work with all levels of government and business and communities; and to think innovatively and proactively for regional communities. "Regional development requires smart thinking within available resources." "With experienced leadership from Alice Springs Mayor Damien Ryan as Chair, and Alderman Kerry Moir of Darwin City Council as Deputy Chair, I am confident that this committee is ready for the challenge we have put in front of them," Ms McKew said. Mr Hale welcomed the committee and provided a run-down of their roles and responsibilities. "I encourage the committee members to work closely with communities across the Territory," Mr Hale said. "There is a great energy about this group. It fills me with confidence that they will set high goals and strive to reach them. "This committee needs to both talk and listen to their local communities, businesses, interest groups and elected representatives across the levels of government. Doing this will give them an even stronger voice on local issues." The Parliamentary Secretary and Mr Hale again congratulated the committee on their appointment and called on them to get working on engaging with government and regional communities, and responding to local needs.
