|
Maxine McKew, the federal Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Development, and Michael Aird, the Tasmanian Minister for Economic Development, have urged the new Regional Development Australia (RDA) Tasmania Committee to strive for the State's regions. The Minister and the Parliamentary Secretary met the new Committee face-to-face for the first time at an official induction in Hobart this morning. Ms McKew urged Committee members to seize the opportunity that RDA Tasmania presents. "I have asked the Committee to work hard, work together, and work with businesses, communities and all levels of government," Ms McKew said. "We want the Committee to think innovatively for regional communities - this is the challenge I set them." Mr Aird said the group had a wide range of skills and experience, that he was confident would benefit all Tasmanians. "I thank the Committee members for their commitment to Tasmania." "I am sure that the Chair John Klug and Deputy Chair, the Rt Reverend Dr Christopher Jones, will lead the Committee in consultation with their local communities, and represent the broader interests of all Tasmanians." Ms McKew and Mr Aird briefed the Committee on their new roles, responsibilities and their Governments' expectations. Ms McKew and Mr Aird congratulated the Committee and called on it to get working on engaging with government and regional communities.
