The Australian and South Australian governments along with the Local Government Association of South Australia (LGASA) today announced the members for eight new local consultative bodies which will form Regional Development Australia (RDA) South Australia. Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Maxine McKew, South Australian Minister for Regional Development, Paul Caica, and LGASA President, Mayor Felicity-ann Lewis congratulated the appointees. "Regional Development Australia boards will be a local voice for communities across South Australia," said Ms McKew. "For the first time, local leaders will give formal input to all governments in South Australia on the issues that matter to their region." Mr Caica said the quality and diversity of RDA board members augurs well for the renewal of South Australia's regions. "The new RDA boards are made up of local people with the leadership and commitment to work with government to develop their communities", he said. "We have the people in place who can deliver on the goals we have set them in working with all levels of government on the best way to build jobs and investment in their communities." Mayor Lewis said the appointment of boards of strong regional leaders was a crucial step in delivering a more coordinated approach to regional development in SA. "We have a few more steps to complete but I am convinced that the financial commitment of all three spheres of government in SA will see SA leading the nation in this area," Mayor Lewis said, noting that SA was the State with the largest financial commitment by local government to RDA. "It makes sense - communities want governments working together." Ms McKew, Mr Caica and Mayor Lewis said now that board members are appointed, the chairs and deputies can start working with government to support the transition to RDA. "The network can now really get down to the business of assisting in the delivery of government programs and services to SA's communities and implementing a coordinated approach to developing SA's regions," they said "We take this opportunity to thank the members of the Regional Development Boards and the Area Consultative Committees for the contribution they have made over the years to regional development in SA." "We also pay tribute to Rob Kerin for the work he has been undertaking with South Australia's regional communities to facilitate the transition to Regional Development Australia."
