The Australian Government has today appointed 93 local leaders to be the voices of WA's regions on Regional Development Australia committees. Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Development, Maxine McKew, and Parliamentary Secretary for Western Australia, Gary Gray, announced the appointments of the committee members, including Chairs and Deputy Chairs, for the nine WA RDA committees. A full list of appointments is available at www.rda.gov.au Ms McKew and Mr Gray congratulated the appointees. Ms McKew said the committee members were chosen for their local leadership, their dedication to and understanding of their communities. "I look forward to working with all RDA Western Australia committee members on regional development issues close to their communities," Ms McKew said. "RDA Western Australia will be a first point of call to promote regional initiatives and partnerships and make sure that they respond to local needs." Mr Gray said the Rudd Government was listening to WA's regional communities. "WA has unique needs across a vast array of different communities. We want the people on the ground across the state to tell us the challenges they face," Mr Gray said. "RDA is a direct link between these local communities and government." Ms McKew and Mr Gray said today's appointments would help to create new opportunities in regional communities across Western Australia. "We urge all the new WA RDA committee members to provide a strong voice for their regions," they said.
