NEW TRAFFIC SIGNALS FOR PORT MACQUARIE

Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Anthony Albanese, and NSW Minister for Roads, Michael Daley, today announced new traffic lights will be operational at the intersection of Gordon and Grant Streets in Port Macquarie from next Monday, February 9.

Mr Albanese said the work was jointly funded by the three levels of government comprising:

  • $207,000 from the Federal Government as part of the Auslink Black Spot Program;
  • $143,000 from the State Government Black Spot Program; and
  • $475,000 from Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.

"This upgrade is an excellent example of how Federal, State and local governments work together to deliver real road safety benefits in our key regional cities," Mr Albanese said.

"I congratulate Port Macquarie-Hastings Council for nominating this project to the Auslink program to help reduce the number of intersection crashes and improve pedestrian safety, and also for completing the work."

Mr Daley said the new traffic lights were a welcome addition, improving road safety for both motorists and pedestrians.

"The lights will provide pedestrians with four separate crossings at the one intersection," Mr Daley said.

"The lights will also incorporate right turn lanes, allowing motorists to safely turn into Grant Street."
