Major Project Facilitation Status for Woodside Pluto Expansion
|
|
I have granted Major Project Facilitation (MPF) status to Woodside's proposed Pluto LNG Expansion Project, underscoring our efforts to support investments which will position Australia to take full advantage of the global economic recovery. The project would expand the common user processing facility at the company's Pluto LNG Park on Western Australia's Burrup Peninsula by constructing two additional LNG trains and associated infrastructure. To support the expansion, Woodside would seek to tap into the more than 70 trillion cubic feet of discovered but yet undeveloped gas reserves in the Carnarvon Basin. If it proceeds, the expansion of the Pluto LNG Park would deliver considerable economic benefits to the national economy, with each train expected to create up to 3,500 construction jobs and generate significant export earnings. Woodside is expected to make a final investment decision by the end of next year. The MPF program is administered by my Department, with the purpose of facilitating and supporting private sector investment proposals through the approval processes of Federal and state/territory authorities. It also assists with the early identification of impediments to greater private sector investment. Media Contacts
