Joint release with:

The Hon Kate Ellis MP

Minister for Youth and Sport

Infrastructure and Local Government Minister Anthony Albanese and Sports Minister Kate Ellis today announced that the Rudd Labor Government would offer up to $4.36 million towards North West Sector Sports Grounds Development.

Ms Ellis made the announcement with Member for Wakefield Nick Champion and representatives from the Salisbury Council.

The Government will provide more than 75 per cent of funding for this $5.7 million project.

The funding is part of our $800 million Community Infrastructure Program - the single largest investment in local infrastructure in Australia's history.

We are investing in community and sporting facilities to support jobs and stimulate local economies during the global economic recession.

The project, which is being managed by the City of Salisbury, will result in the redevelopments of Adams Oval and Burton Reserve to ensure these sporting grounds will be available to meet community needs.

Federal funding will contribute to the project's construction, which is expected to include:

  • provision of sports ground lighting;
  • club rooms;
  • soccer pitches;
  • cricket pitches;
  • playgrounds;
  • footpaths with pedestrian lighting;
  • provision of community open space;
  • creation of a new entrance roadway; and
  • car parking and fencing.

It builds on more than $1.3 million in funding that we have already delivered to Salisbury for three smaller-scale local projects this year.

This brings Rudd Government investment in Salisbury community infrastructure to more than $5.6 million this year.

The Rudd Labor Government is working in partnership with local government to fund more than 3,000 community projects across Australia that will support jobs, stimulate local economies and deliver long-term improvements in communities.
