Joint release with:
Michael Daley
NSW Minister for Roads
Public comment has been invited on the Pacific Highway Coffs Harbour Bypass, with detailed concept designs having gone on display.
Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister, Anthony Albanese, and NSW Roads Minister, Michael Daley, said the proposal was part of the continuing Pacific Highway upgrade - jointly funded by the Federal and State governments - and would improve road safety and cut travel times.
"The concept design for the dual carriageway upgrade has been prepared following community consultation and technical investigations and is now on display for community comment," said Mr Albanese.
It includes:
- A new four lane dual carriageway highway from south of Englands Road to Korora Hill; and
- An upgrade of the existing highway from Korora Hill to the southern end of the proposed Sapphire to Woolgoolga upgrade to provide a four lane dual carriageway highway and local access roads.
The existing Pacific Highway would link the Coffs Harbour central business district to the interchanges at Englands Road and Korora Hill.
Mr Daley said the concept design provided for possible grade-separated interchanges at Englands Road, Coramba Road and Korora Hill.
"A local access road between the southern end of the proposed Sapphire to Woolgoolga upgrade and the Korora Hill interchange would link Sapphire and Korora to this interchange and to the existing highway into Coffs Harbour," said Mr Daley.
"The Coramba Road interchange would provide access to west Coffs Harbour and the Orara Valley.
"We encourage residents and the local community to visit one of the displays and comment on the concept design."
Following the display of the concept design, the RTA will consider issues raised in the comments received. Once this process is finalised, Coffs Harbour City Council will be approached to take planning action to formally reserve the corridor.
